You have three PDFs on your phone, a receipt, a signed form and a scan, and whoever is waiting on them wants one file. Neither iOS nor Android has a single obvious "merge" button, but combining PDFs on a phone takes about a minute once you know which route to use. This guide covers the browser method that works on both platforms, plus the built-in options on each.
The fastest route on either platform: a browser tool
A browser-based merge tool works the same on iPhone and Android, needs no app install, and avoids the account prompts many merge apps put in front of you.
- Open Merge PDF in Safari or Chrome.
- Tap the upload area and pick your PDFs from Files (iPhone) or your file picker (Android). You can select several at once.
- Use the up and down arrows to put them in the order you want, and remove any you added by mistake.
- Merge, then save the result to Files or Downloads.

On iPhone without any tool
iOS can combine PDFs through the Files app, though it is easy to miss.
- In Files, long-press one PDF and tap Quick Actions, then Create PDF. This is designed for images, so it works best when your source pages are photos or scans.
- For existing PDFs, open the first one, tap the page thumbnails view, and use the insert option to add pages from another file.

On Android without any tool
Android varies by manufacturer, so there is no universal built-in merge. Google Drive and most file managers can open and share PDFs but will not combine them. Samsung's and some other vendors' document apps add a merge option, but the menu names differ by device and version. Get the order right before you merge
Merging is quick, but fixing a wrong order afterwards means extra steps. A few habits help:
- Rename files with numbers first. Names like
01-cover,02-form,03-receiptmake the sequence obvious in the picker. - Check page orientation. A landscape scan mixed with portrait pages looks wrong in the final file. See how to rotate a PDF page.
- Convert photos to PDF first if some of your pages are images. Our JPG to PDF tool does this, and you can then merge everything together.
Watch the file size
Merged files are the sum of their parts. Three scans of 4 MB each give you a file of roughly 12 MB, which may be over the limit for an email or an application portal. If the merge fails
- A password-protected file will not combine. Unlock it first with Unlock PDF, which requires the password.
- A very large file can run out of memory on an older phone. Merge in two smaller batches, then merge the two results.
- Files stored only in the cloud may not be selectable. Download them to the device first, so the picker has a real local copy to read.
Keep the originals
Always save the merged file under a new name and leave the sources alone. If you spot a wrong page later, you can rebuild the combined file in a minute, or use Remove Pages to drop a page from the merged version without starting again.
